Certified Buildings:
GEI awards a building certification prior to occupancy when GEI determines that the building has successfully met the rigorous criteria of the program.
GREENGUARD Building Construction protects Lenders, Insurers and Building Developers from Mold Risk by ensuring that buildings use industries' best practices for safeguarding against the damage and resulting losses caused by mold.

Leveraging the nation's experts, the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute developed an ANSI standard of "best practices" for mold and moisture management in newly constructed buildings. It was approved in April 2009, and is called the ANSI/GREENGUARD Environmental Institute Mold And Moisture Management Standard For New Construction (ANSI/GEI – MMS1001).
GREENGUARD Building Construction "certifies" those buildings that meet this standard and monitors their compliance throughout the term of the loan or building life.
A GREENGUARD certified building carries value in the market because it attracts occupants concerned about their health, which ultimately benefits the value of the asset and its resale to secondary markets.
Cost depends on the size of the building, location and other factors. However, compared to the cost of the project, the cost of delayed or lost deals, and the overall risk posed to lenders, the cost is insignificant.
