Certification Standards

The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) provides product standards and building standards that are required to be met for GREENGUARD Certification. There may be additional verification requirements, which must be completed before certification can be awarded. After initial certification, there will be prescribed on-going testing, documentation, and verification processes required for demonstration of consistent product or building performance.
Product Standards
Product standards permit certification of a wide range of products across numerous industries. These include the product types listed below. However, if you would like to certify a product not currently represented in this list, please email us at info@greenguard.org or call us at 800.427.9641. New product type requirements are established as requested or as required by national/international regulations or programs.

Building Standards
The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute currently has one building standard, ANSI/GEI-MMS1001. This standard details best practices for preventing moisture intrusion and resulting mold in new building construction and major renovations. This standard is available for purchase.
