At the most basic level, buildings must provide shelter and protect their occupants by creating safe and comfortable environments to live, learn and work. Since the average person spends 90 percent of their time indoors, architects and designers can have a significant impact on occupant health by taking steps in the design and construction phases to ensure excellent indoor air quality will be provided in the spaces they create. Selecting and specifying GREENGUARD Certified products are among the most effective and easiest ways for architects, designers and specifying professionals to ensure they are creating healthier educational, healthcare, office and home environments.

As the world’s largest resource for low-emitting products and materials, the GREENGUARD Product Guide℠ helps designers and builders fulfill the requirements of green building certification processes and initiatives, without feeling restricted in the selection process. Additionally, each certified product listing contains a printable certificate, which streamlines the verification and paperwork required for LEED® and other sustainable building programs. The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) also offers an IAQ Management Plan specification which provides instruction for selecting construction products, construction site management, construction sequencing, HVAC operation during construction, product installation, building flush-out and indoor air quality (IAQ) testing.

The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute offers many continuing education units (CEUs) to increase understanding of IAQ issues specific to built environments, such as commercial offices, healthcare settings and educational facilities. All courses are Health, Safety and Welfare (HSW) and Sustainable Design (SD) accredited through the American Association of Architects (AIA). Other course accreditations include the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), Interior Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC) and Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), Construction Education Network (CEN).
